Monitoring Population Vertebrate

Monitoring Vertebrate Populations by William L. Thompson,

Monitoring Vertebrate Populations by William L. Thompson,
This book is written to serve as a general reference for biologists monitoring population vertebrate and resource managers with relatively little statistical training. It focuses on both basic concepts monitoring population vertebrate and practical applications to provide professionals with the tools needed to assess monitoring methods that can detect trends in populations. It combines classical finite population sampling designs with population enumeration procedures in a unified approach for obtaining abundance estimates for species of interest. The statistical information is presented in practical, easy-to-understand terminology.

Effective population size - In population genetics, the concept of effective population size Ne was introduced by the American geneticist Sewall Wright, who wrote two landmark papers on it (Wright 1931, 1938). He defined it as "the number of breeding individuals in an idealized population that would show the same amount of dispersion of allele frequencies under random genetic drift or the same amount of inbreeding as the population under consideration".

Population size - In population genetics and population ecology, population size (usually denoted N) is the number of individual organisms in a population.

Population viability analysis - Population viability analysis(PVA) is a branch of conservation biology dealing with techniques (usually simulation modelling) for determining the genetic diversity, spatial and temporal features of a population so as to evaluate the risk of extinction for that population. Some of the aims of PVA are to identify minimum viable population size for a species and set recovery targets for conservation managers.

Matrix population models - Population models are used in population ecology to model the dynamics of wildlife or human populations. Matrix population models are a specific type of population model that uses matrix algebra.
