A Practical Guide to Vertebrate Mechanics by Christopher McGowan,

A Practical Guide to Vertebrate Mechanics by Christopher McGowan,
A thorough understanding of the form, function, vertebrate zoology and design of animals is essential to any working biologist's knowledge. In the author's view, however, this fast-growing field of study can be made much more exciting vertebrate zoology and accessible with a hands-on, practical approach. This view is the basis for A Practical Guide to Vertebrate Mechanics. This text can be considered an engineering book for biologists. The emphasis is on vertebrates, vertebrate zoology and each topic begins with a discussion of the underlying principles, followed immediately by practical experiments vertebrate zoology and laboratory exercises. The author begins with a refresher on scaling vertebrate zoology and measurement. This is followed by three chapters on the mechanical properties of materials--investigating elasticity, the strength of materials, vertebrate zoology and how things break. This leads the discussion to animal materials--bones, joints, muscles--which serve to illustrate principles of structure vertebrate zoology and load, lubrication, physiology, metabolism, vertebrate zoology and stamina. Finally, the systems are put in motion, as we discuss terrestrial locomotion, flight, vertebrate zoology and swimming. What sets this book apart from others on functional anatomy is the emphasis on practical work. Many of the experiments are simple to conduct. Detailed instructions for setting up the experiments are given in an appendix, vertebrate zoology and sample results are included to guide the student. A Practical Guide to Vertebrate Mechanics will form an important part of undergraduate vertebrate zoology and beginning graduate courses for zoology, anatomy, biomechanics, vertebrate zoology and paleontology students. Chris McGowan is Professor in the Department of Zoology at the University of Toronto vertebrate zoology and Curator in the Department of Palaeobiology at the Royal Ontario Museum. Several of his previousbooks include, The Raptor vertebrate zoology and the Lamb: Offense vertebrate zoology and Defense in the Living World (1997), Make Your Own Dinosaur Out of Chicken Bones: Foolproof Instructions for Budding Palaeontologists (1997), vertebrate zoology and Diatoms to Dinosaurs (1994).

Thinking Beyond Darwin: The Idea of Living Form as a Key to Vertebrate Evolution by Ernst Michael Kranich,

Thinking Beyond Darwin: The Idea of Living Form as a Key to Vertebrate Evolution by Ernst Michael Kranich,
Through the work of Charles Darwin, a great task was set before science -- to progress from opinions about evolution to a science of evolution, vertebrate zoology and reveal the inner laws vertebrate zoology and driving forces at work in the development of the organic world. In Thinking Beyond Darwin, Ernst-Michael Kranich focuses on a central problem of evolutionary science. He shows us a way, based on Goethe's botanical vertebrate zoology and zoological investigations, of seeing the coherence vertebrate zoology and inner dynamics of organisms. Using Goethe's concept of type as a key to vertebrate evolution, Kranich shows that the laws vertebrate zoology and driving forces of evolution are encompassed by the inner lawfulness of living organisms vertebrate zoology and that we must participate through formative thinking in the evolutionary processes. This book contributes important insights about earlier animal forms vertebrate zoology and evolutionary laws that could have immense consequences for future evolutionary thinking.
